"Mean momma in the whole wide world!"

Our five year old has been in speech therapy since he was about 2. Miss Amy works with him on various sounds - "p" and "b" etc. and gives him exercises, like sucking pudding through a straw, that work his mouth and tongue muscles. Lately I've been questioning whether we really should be encouraging his communication skills after all. When he is in trouble with me and I have to spank him or send him to time-out, he sputters out several words and sentences, usually in the following order, "Mean!" "Liar liar, pants on fire!" "I'm not gonna be your best friend anymore!" The last one just cracks me up! Where does he get these?
Tonight was a classic. As we were lying in bed talking, singing, trying to get him to fall asleep so I could get up and play on the computer (hee hee) he asked, "Are you the mean momma in the whole wide world?" His question caught me a bit off guard. "No, honey, I don't think so." "Then how come you won't let me brush my teeth with the noisy toothbrush?" We have been letting him use the electric toothbrush. Tonight I had to take it away from him before he felt he was finished. (The internet was calling for me!) He was not a happy camper. We went through the rest of his night-time routine and had been talking quietly and singing songs for about 10 minutes before he astounded me with his adorable accusation. Are we in trouble, or what?

Maybe I'm not so excited about my little Jacob starting to talk after all. Although, I'm pretty sure some of the babbling I hear after a spanking or time out are not what I would call endearing.

Too cute. Thanks for sharing.

Morning Update: He right now brushing his teeth with the noisy toothbrush and quite happy about it, so I asked, "Am I the nicest momma in the whole wide world?" "No." "No?" "Only a little bit." Hmmmmm

Precious sister,

Let me tell you something us (yes, I mean us) "mean" Mama's are the BEST Mama's. When my children were that age and said hateful, ungodly things to me. I sat them down lovingly and gently (after I prayed of course) and read Scripture to them, specifically Eph. 4:29-32.

Then I told them how much their words cut my heart and mad me sad. I told them that I do the things I do b/c I love them and this is how God tells me in the Bible to love them...discipline them. Then I show them Proverbs 13:24. Then I say, "See, God says when I do these things to you, I am loving you. So I guess you're wrong and you need to tell God you are sorry for your mean words and you need to tell me your sorry too. But even if you don't. I still love you. And although it breaks my heart when you are mean to me with your words, I will still love you and do what's best, even if you don't like me, b/c I don't live for you to like me sweet baby. I live to show Christ how much I love Him by obey His commandments."

Hope this helps. But while I'm at it, here's something I hope will cheer your day.

I have a bloggy award for you!

Please stop by my place and pick it up. Here's the link:

I'm Overflowing and I Want To Share

Dear Jenny,

Thank you, Jenny, for coming to my blog and leaving me with such a kind comment.

Yes, it is exciting to know all you precious women who desire to be submissive wives. In the world around me, I don’t know any women with this desire.

I hope that God will give me complete humility and work through me to show them what goodness He has in store for them as submissive wives.

Dear Lord, please give us fervent love for one another to cover the multitude of our sins.

May God bless your day today and your loving care of His little ones.

Love, Ernestine :)

I am happy to say that I was/am a "mean" mama too! I would encourage you to write these things down and put them in a memory box. You will forget some of these precious moments. My kids are teens now and I am so grateful for the things I wrote down (I have a post on a memory box (under children) if you want to know what I am talking about). I look forward to visiting again! Blessings!
